Integrating Healthcare Information

Healthcare stakeholders amass vast amounts of data, but using it to make timely and effective decisions has never been more challenging. Volume doesn’t equal insight. What matters is relevance.

Bringing together the right information has the power to focus, strengthen and illuminate a broad range of actions to advance healthcare quality and productivity.

This is a core strength of IMS. Our ability to integrate the most relevant data from more than 99,000 sources worldwide enables us to help clients “connect the dots” and transform information into action.

  • Leveraging quality data; delivering more useful analytics

IMS is helping life sciences clients manage, integrate and analyze information about specialty medicines — products with uniquely complex distribution models. By combining the client’s own information with our specialty pharmacy provider and de-identified patient-level data, we can create an entirely new level of performance reporting, and help to drive quality improvements and healthcare outcomes.

  • Applying new data types to support next-generation medicine

Science and medicine are rapidly changing as technology and our understanding of the human genome and biomarkers revolutionize what’s possible. IMS is at the forefront of this revolution. We have projects underway that seamlessly blend patient-centered insights — including family history, occupational, environmental and genomics data — to help determine the best treatment pathway for individual participants. Pharmacogenomics and personalized medicine require complex data integration and analysis. IMS is uniquely able to provide an analytical platform that supports clients' strategic decisions and operations.

  • Modeling outcomes for different treatment options

Working with key stakeholders, IMS has developed standard platforms and methodologies to model outcomes for different treatments. One example: the IMS Core Diabetes Model integrates demographic, payer, sales and other information to calculate long-term outcomes. With it, diabetes management strategies can be compared within different patient populations and clinical settings to deliver better care experiences that emphasize adherence and compliance.

Today, IMS tracks 1.4 million pharmaceutical products, covering over 80 percent of all global pharmaceutical sales. We capture information on 260+ million anonymized patients, including their diagnosis and treatment. More than 40 billion transactions are processed annually — using applications and analytics that leverage proprietary methodologies to bring structure to massive volumes of data.

In a dramatically changing landscape, we innovate for clients — providing the clarity and understanding to create new healthcare value for patients and organizations.
